Tears for Five Nations

Shed no tears as we walk by
Or if we should lie down to die
Five Nations of the strong and proud
Cloaked with death’s small pox shroud
Choctaw, Creek, Seminole,
Chickasaw and Cherokee Nations
Faced 1830’s winter freeze
And cruel slow starvation
You stole our land and claimed our homes
Your white greed has no humane bones
You force us out to steal our mother’s gold
We will not let you take our soul
Though many of us fell along the way
Some lived to see another day
One thousand miles we walked and died
No tear drops shown from our eyes
The Trail of Tears I must make clear
For the story is often mystified
It was the tears that spectator’s shed
As we walked compliantly by
They watched and hung their heads
To cry
